Good place, very nostalgic. Prices are a bit inflated, but for an occasional treat, it's a great place. I do have to say their pies are AWESOME!!!!

We went here for the first time, with some friends who are regulars. It's like going back in time to a better place, with great food. The staff was exceptional and the owner, John, was a pleasure. He makes a killer Old Fashioned. I highly recommend Modern Snack Bar.

Excellent all the way through. Went with my mother and the nice owner remembered her unusual drink request from months ago! Super friendly man and awesome bartender! The place was full with happy people but not crazy. The soft shell crabs were the biggest and best ones we've ever had. This place is perfect in every way.

Food and ambiance is amazing! Wait staff were friendly and helpful! Menu had many choses to choose from::restaurant is clean and pleasant! I will go there again and recommend it to everyone!

People have been telling me to eat at this restaurant for years. Everyone says you're not a real Long Islander unless you have eaten here (just like Zorns, Tara's, All-American, etc.) so I finally went the other day for lunch with my son. Walking in the restaurant, you immediately feel like you are in a time capsule from the 70s with the wood paneling that every parent had in their living room and finished basement. Nothing fancy here, very kitschy and packed with lots of locals and octogenarians. The menu was nice. Seems like lots of old-school comfort food-like prime rib, meatloaf, and burgers, but with a nice selection of seafood, softshell crabs, clams, and oysters as well. Nothing really screamed at me on the menu though my lunch sized pork loin with sauerkraut was delicious but the portion was small. I could've eaten two or three of them. French fries were frozen out of the bag but the mashed potatoes I could eat every day for the rest of my life they tasted homemade with love. Lots of desserts to choose from homemade pie, milkshakes, root beer floats, and even egg creams. It does get crowded and is a little pricey, but definitely worth checking out on the way home from The Vineyards or pie country.

Step back in time, enjoy delicious home-cooked food in a very casual atmosphere. Full bar and interesting cocktails. Hubby decided to do the turkey dinner, which was very traditional, sliced, turkey, mashed potatoes, mashed turnips, and stuffing with a brown gravy. I opted for the Long Island duck, that is prepared very well. It also had stuffing and mashed potatoes on the side and I opted for the turnips as well because nobody does mashed turnips as well as the Modern Snackbar. They are famous for their mashed turnips! The service is very attentive and I think you'll enjoy, a hearty home cook meal in a casual atmosphere.

My dad, my son and I came here after visiting Harbes farms. I thought they had snacks to go but it turns out they are more of a diner but they sell pies to go. I wasn't too hungry so my dad and I got coffee and pie, my son got ice cream. The service was nice and they let people stay past closing. The pie is great, I had a slice of chocolate creme pie, and my dad bought an apple crumb pie to go which I loved to. This is a reasonable place to visit if you're out east.
